I don’t always eat waffles, but when I do, they’re from Songbird Coffee and Tea House.
It’s true. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but these are a Belgian exception. Songbird is a delightful coffee shop in downtown Phoenix I visit regularly, a crisp walk north of the convention center, sports complexes, and Arizona State University’s downtown campus. So no matter your reason for visiting, you’ll need coffee. And if you need coffee, you’ll want it from Songbird.

Not only is their beverage (and customer service!) my favorite, but the weekend liege waffles are the best diet cheat you’ll never regret. Only served weekends at 9 a.m. until supplies last, the element of weekly anticipation is high.
These waffles are unique in that they’re liege, and therefore don’t need syrup and are about the size of my hand. The pastry is dense and sweet, with caramelized sugar pearls and maple flavoring. Each waffle is made fresh when you order, and the varieties vary each weekend.
Coupled with their iced coffee and beyond-friendly baristas, Songbird is this local’s top shop. While they’re soon to relocate to a small house just south on 3rd Street, they’re currently located in a shared space on Roosevelt Street, the main drag in the popular arts district downtown, Roosevelt Row.
For more information, like Songbird on Facebook, or follow one of their various other social accounts.
