Visiting concrete jungle in the winter is a bad idea. Especially if that jungle is Chicago.
That’s ok, because although the observatories were closed due to lack of visibility my first few days, there are luckily other things to do.
Lincoln Park: one of the city’s more popular parks right out of the dense landscape of skyscrapers and crazy. I went to visit the zoo (which is fabulous), but also happened across a quaint little farm. An extension of the zoo itself, the property is complete with a dairy and an iconic red barn.
Please don’t feed the animals.
Although the grounds were covered in snow, I’m sure it’s a lovely stop for a picnic for a young family in warmer weather. I loved the traditional picket fence and windmills, with a massive steal skyline peaking over the top of the barns and ranch house.
Truly a little gem and pleasant surprise.
